Our Shepherd Lutheran School has an eLearning Day today. Please follow instructions for activities in the yellow eLearning Homework folder that was sent home with your child yesterday. I look forward to receiving activities from all of the kindergarten students. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to email me at [email protected]
Today we counted some of the blessings that God has given us. The students looked through pages in our picture dictionaries to find things for which they were thankful. Then they printed these blessings on turkey feathers and had fun making turkeys to put out on display in the hall. Come see these when you get a chance. After this work was done, the students worked hard to put the dictionary pages back in alphabetical order into the binders. Learning how to sequence into abc order is an important skill that is often overlooked. Yet the skill of alphabetical order is a very important organizational skill that goes throughout many things in society.
Later we had fun with our literacy centers and then our hibernation thematic centers. Students at the blue table had fun making bear caves into which they will put some sleeping bears. At the green table the students learned about things that bears do to get ready to hibernate as they made special books. At the yellow table students put two bear cards with numerals into "caves". Then they compared the numerals and decided which numeral was greater and which one was less. Students at the red table wrote stories, along with practicing the correct formation of Hh and words that begin with h. Later we enjoyed time in the gym and we are working on manipulating objects. We learned to twist, bend, stretch, reach, etc. We are working on tossing, catching, walking while tossing, working with partners, etc. Students practiced printing numerals 0-15 correctly and then added one more to a set and wrote the corresponding numeral. Finally at the end of the day the students made patterns on Native American headbands which will be worn on Tuesday for our Thanksgiving feast. We had a great start to our week! This morning we learned how a widow in Bible times gave from her heart to the Lord with the realization that all that we have is the Lord's. We can trust that God will continue to provide for all our needs and so we share with one another and we are good stewards of our time, talents, and treasures. We pray for God's guidance with all that He gives us and we thank the Lord! We are learning how to feel to guess letters in mystery bags that when put together make a mystery word. Then we use the word and put it together with other words to make a sentence. We began a new set of literacy centers. The writing center gives the students practice at making sentences with some select words. At the alphabet center the students are scooping letters from a bowl and then they sequence the letters into alphabetical order. The phonemic awareness table gives the kids some more practice with ending sounds as they match picture and letter cards using magnifying glasses. At the word work center the students are stamping words. The reading center gives kids practice "driving" through the sounds in simple consonant-vowel-consonant words. We practice fluently racing to sequence numerals 1-10 in order and then again using dot cards. The rest of the afternoon we focused on our new theme of hibernation. We enjoyed watching a video to learn about how bears and some other animals prepare for winter. We look forward to starting some hibernation thematic centers tomorrow. |
