Check out our voting line in kindergarten! We had fun today exercising our right to vote. We continued our rotation of literacy centers and thematic centers. The students are enjoying learning about our nation. They are making hats and torches for the Statue of Liberty. They also are decorating our American flag so that we can wave them during some special patriotic songs. We are learning patriotism and how to show respect for the flag. At another center the students are learning about a map of the U. S. A. They learn to find our state of Indiana and that this is the part of our nation where we live. Later they get to have fun trying to put a large puzzle of the U.S.A. together. The green table is working hard to make a sight word book that teaches the word "need". We are also helping them to learn that besides things like water, food, clothes, shelter.....we need Jesus the most. The class is practicing the correct formation of Nn, its sound, and they are writing stories in their journals. It is great to see more students leaving spaces between words and including more sounds in the words. During Math we continue to use manipulatives to form part to whole relationships. We had fun exercising to a DVD throughout the afternoon and also learned important concepts as we exercised. It was especially fun to march during a patriotic song. For fun we also danced a turkey trot, turkey freeze, and a turkey hokey pokey. During calendar book time the students had fun singing some new songs for the month of November. We had a very busy day as we are wrapping up our first trimester this week. So in the process I did not take many photos. We are also practicing our song that we will sing this Sunday at the 10:45a.m. service. We hope to see everyone there. During Jesus Time we learned about Zechariah and how God promised him that he and his wife would have a baby that would prepare the way for Jesus, our Savior. It was fun to watch a video to help us sequence and understand the events. We began a new set of literacy centers and some of them are helping the students to work on ending sounds in words. At another center the students are taking surveys about making gingerbread. The reading center helps the students to practice matching words to a poem and the word work center provides practices with putting words in the correct order to make sentences in a special train book. We had fun singing a song to learn words that begin with n. It is important to practice the correct formation of Nn and to make sure that N is not backwards and that n does not resemble h. In Math we continued to work on part to whole relationships and worked hard to identify the missing part. This week we will be learning about our nation and we will be studying special symbols that help us identify the U.S.A. We watched a special video to help us learn about a number of special symbols including: the flag, Statue of Liberty, Liberty Bell, bald eagle, bison, etc.
