In addition to new literacy centers, thematic centers, Math, Science, etc. we began working on our first stories for the Authors' Tea! This exciting day will be here before you know it. Stay tuned for more information to come about this very special event in May! You will not want to miss it on Friday, May 17!
This week we are studying how Jesus prayed before He died on the cross. We learn from Him. We pray that we may not enter into temptation. The Lord hears our prayer and will help us be strong against sin. He also forgives us when we are tempted. Thanks be to God!
We began some new literacy centers. During our mini lessons we are learning about words that describe nouns or tell more about verbs. Our writing is better when we use more descriptive words (adjectives and adverbs). One of our centers includes a poetry station that helps kids put together a fun spring poem that can be sung to the tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean". At the alphabet center the kids are trying to guess a mystery word and then they create a sentence using this word. The phonemic awareness center has the kids using magnifying glasses to find words that contain certain blends. The word work table helps the kids to read CVC words fluently as someone times the reading. At the writing center kids are writing a safety rule and then making Officer Buckle to display with the rule. We will learn about the rain forest this week. Students had fun singing a little Rr songbook about "Rowdy the Rodeo Rat" today as they learned the moral of the story is that you have to practice reading to succeed. The kids are learning the /w/ is not the /r/ sound. They also are learning how to correctly print Rr. In Math we continue to decompose numbers in the teens into ten and so many ones. They had fun also dancing to a number bond video. Finally the students learned how to protect themselves against germs. It was interesting to watch a video that showed ways to stay healthy and fight germs. |
